Framework Laptop 16 now with RTX 5070 12GB and launch event re-cap
Framework announced Framework Laptop 16 configurations with the new NVIDIA RTX 5070 12GB GPU, shipping in June alongside new input devices. The company also introduced a USB-A (2nd Gen) Expansion Card to improve power efficiency on AMD systems.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Framework reported strong pre-order demand for its Framework Laptop 13 Pro, exceeding initial forecasts and reaching Batch 10 production. The company is finalizing validation and software for the Pro model while scaling manufacturing. Positive feedback was also noted for Framework Laptop 16, the OCuLink Dev Kit, and the Wireless Touchpad Keyboard. A recording of the launch event and community Q&A is available on the company’s YouTube channel.
Framework Laptop 13 Pro was designed with Linux users in mind, and early sales data shows Ubuntu configurations outselling Windows versions. Over one-third of pre-orders came from users transitioning from MacBook Pro devices. The company received favorable feedback from Linux developers who tested pre-production units, including coverage from CachyOS. Multiple reviewers and community members also published hands-on reviews following the event.
NVIDIA introduced a 12GB version of the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, and Framework now offers Framework Laptop 16 variants with this GPU for pre-order. Shipments are scheduled to begin in June alongside the One Piece Haptic Touchpad and Keyboard. The Graphics Module itself is also available for pre-order in the Framework Marketplace for existing Framework Laptop 16 owners, marking the third discrete GPU option for the system.
Framework also launched a USB-A (2nd Gen) Expansion Card, featuring a custom receptacle that detects device connection. When unused, the card remains invisible to the system, reducing power consumption on AMD systems where rear Expansion Card slots lack automatic low-power states. The 2nd Gen card is available with pre-orders of Framework Laptop 13 Pro and will be released for other systems and the Framework Marketplace later this summer.
