GDCA 2027 moves away from nominations-based system, publishers and devs can now submit games for consideration
The 2027 Game Developers Choice Awards will accept direct submissions from developers and publishers for the first time, replacing the previous nomination-based system.
The 2027 Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) will now allow publishers and developers to submit their games directly for consideration, marking a shift from the previous nomination-based system. Eligible titles must be released on PC or console between January 1 and December 31, 2026, with no entry fees required. The submission window opens with a deadline of November 1, 2026, ensuring developers have ample time to prepare their entries before the process begins.
Previously, the GDCA relied on a closed nomination system through the International Choice Awards Network (ICAN), which included over 500 industry members. This year’s awards introduce two new categories: Best Game Launch and Best Gaming Tech, expanding the scope of recognition beyond traditional gameplay-focused awards. Winners will be announced at the GDCA ceremony on March 2, 2027, during the GDC Festival of Gaming in San Francisco.
The GDC Festival of Gaming 2027 will also feature a new Business Hall at Moscone West, alongside three new pass options tailored to different attendee needs. Dedicated passes for indie developers and start-ups have been introduced to improve accessibility, reflecting broader efforts to modernize the event’s structure and participation models.
GDC VP of content strategy Mark DeLoura stated that the 2027 changes aim to provide more flexible participation options, making the event more accessible and efficient for industry professionals. The revised schedule and new hall are designed to facilitate better networking and alignment with how the industry currently engages with GDC.
