IO Interactive "had no choice" but to delay Switch 2 launch of 007 First Light for a third time
IO Interactive delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 launch of 007 First Light to March 2027, citing technical and marketing factors, despite the port progressing well.
IO Interactive has announced a third delay for the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007 First Light, now scheduled for March 2027. Technical producer Cristina Vega stated the decision was made to ensure the game’s polished quality, acknowledging fan disappointment while emphasizing long-term benefits. The delay follows prolonged development pressure and coordination with marketing teams, leaving no alternative but postponement.
Vega confirmed the porting process to Nintendo Switch 2 is advancing smoothly and nearing its final phase, which includes performance optimization and fine-tuning. She expressed cautious optimism that development might finish earlier than planned, though the March 2027 release date remains fixed. The team is prioritizing a high-quality experience despite the additional time required.
The game will be optimized for Switch 2 while maintaining visual parity with PC, minimizing noticeable differences for players. Vega clarified that compromises were necessary due to hardware limitations, particularly in memory and processing power, but these adjustments target non-critical elements to preserve gameplay integrity.
Vega highlighted specific technical trade-offs, such as reduced object detail at a distance compared to PC, while ensuring core visual fidelity remains intact. IO Interactive’s goal is to deliver a full experience across all platforms, including Switch 2, without sacrificing the game’s intended quality or player experience.
