How IT Service Providers and Software Resellers Take Crypto Payments

CoinGate’s order data for the twelve months ending August 2026 shows IT services and computer hardware businesses generated 27.4% of paid orders by count and roughly a third by value, yet receive little industry attention. The company frames crypto payments as a practical tool for license resellers, MSPs and hardware distributors selling across borders, where card-based fraud models often block legitimate cross-border transactions. For these sectors, crypto’s push-only nature—funds cannot be reversed—reduces chargeback risk on small, frequent orders typical of license and hardware sales, where the median order ranges between 13 and 18 euros.
Integration paths vary by business model. API-driven billing software dominates, with 91.6% of paid orders processed via API rather than ecommerce plugins. WHMCS, a billing platform, accounts for 8.1% of all crypto orders with a median order value of 21.18 euros, forty-two times WooCommerce’s order count, making it the largest plugin integration by volume. For storefronts, plugins exist for WooCommerce, PrestaShop, OpenCart and Wix, while Magento 2 uses a GitHub-hosted module. Manual billing is supported via direct invoice links without requiring code integration.
Settlement currency choices follow a priority order: order-level receive currency, integration-level setting, account fallback list (up to four currencies), and USDC as the default. The integration-level setting resides under Integrations, API Management, API App, and Currency Settings, and does not inherit account-wide preferences. Automatic settlements occur weekly on Standard plans and weekly or on-request on Enterprise plans, while withdrawals to bank accounts follow separate timing listed on the pricing page.
Regulatory clarity is provided via two Bank of Lithuania authorisations held by UAB Decentralized, CoinGate’s operator: Crypto-Asset Service Provider under MiCAR with code LB002323 and Payment Institution under PSD2 with code LB002324. The Payment Institution licence explicitly covers Electronic Money Token transfer services, addressing vendor questionnaire requirements for regulated crypto payment processors.
