Xbox to publish Kojima Productions' Physint after it "unexpectedly received notice" from PlayStation that it would cancel the project
Xbox will publish Kojima Productions' Physint after PlayStation unexpectedly canceled the project, marking a shift from its original exclusive plan.
Sony PlayStation confirmed it canceled its collaboration on Physint, a game developed by Kojima Productions, in mid-June. The decision came as a surprise to the studio, which had been working on the project as a PlayStation exclusive. PlayStation expressed admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision and emphasized its long-standing relationship with the developer, stating it remains strong despite the cancellation.
Kojima Productions responded by seeking a new partner to continue the project. Hideo Kojima announced the studio’s determination to keep Physint alive, highlighting tireless efforts to find an alternative collaborator. The search led to Xbox, which the studio described as sharing a common vision for the future of the game.
Xbox will now publish Physint, marking a significant partnership between the platform holder and Kojima Productions. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma called the collaboration a big moment for the company, noting plans to extend the partnership into future storytelling across games, film, and television.
Kojima Productions and Xbox previously collaborated on Death Stranding, and Physint will expand their relationship. Hideo Kojima reiterated the studio’s commitment to redefining the action-espionage genre while working with Xbox to bring Physint to players worldwide.
