Garmin achieves certification of the GFC 600 digital autopilot in Air Tractor and Piper Matrix aircraft
Garmin’s GFC 600 digital autopilot has received FAA certification for Air Tractor AT-802, AT-802(A), and Piper Matrix PA-46R-350T aircraft, with Cessna 310P/Q approval expected in July 2026.
Garmin announced Federal Aviation Administration Supplemental Type Certification for its GFC 600 digital autopilot in Air Tractor AT-802, AT-802(A), and Piper Matrix PA-46R-350T aircraft. The certification expands the autopilot’s availability to high-performance piston single and twin-engine aircraft, offering a lightweight and cost-effective upgrade path for existing general aviation fleets. The GFC 600 integrates solid-state attitude systems with self-monitoring features to enhance reliability and safety across a range of aircraft speeds and performance profiles.
The GFC 600 includes traditional autopilot functions such as altitude hold, vertical speed, and heading modes, alongside advanced features like Smart Rudder Bias for Cessna 310P/Q aircraft. Smart Rudder Bias assists pilots during one-engine inoperative events by dynamically adjusting rudder force based on engine parameter monitoring via Engine Indication System data displayed on G600 TXi flight displays. The system activates automatically when a power differential is detected, providing visual alerts on the flight display to help pilots quickly identify and respond to the issue.
The GFC 600 digital autopilot for Air Tractor and Piper Matrix aircraft is available immediately through select Garmin authorized dealers. Certification for Cessna 310P/Q aircraft is anticipated in July 2026, with Garmin continuing to expand the STC list for additional aircraft models.
