Garmin SmartCharts now available in Canada and Mexico
Garmin has expanded its SmartCharts aviation charting tool to Canada and Mexico for Garmin Pilot Premium users, offering tailored flight data and new features like CDFA paths and cold weather adjustments.
Garmin announced the availability of SmartCharts for Garmin Pilot Premium users in Canada and Mexico, expanding a service previously launched in the U.S. in May 2025. The tool simplifies aviation charts by filtering data based on user inputs such as aircraft type, runway, and flight procedure, reducing unnecessary information for more efficient flight briefings. Pilots can customize charts to display only relevant routing, fixes, and restrictions, streamlining their workflow during takeoff, approach, and landing phases. The update is part of Garmin’s ongoing effort to enhance pilot efficiency and situational awareness in aviation operations.
The expansion introduces new features tailored to regional needs, including the Continuous Descent Final Approach (CDFA) path on vertical profile views for non-precision approaches. This feature enables pilots to descend continuously along a stable path, improving approach consistency and reducing workload. Canadian pilots also gain access to cold weather adjustments, which display temperature-related corrections for restricted airports, ensuring compliance with operational limitations in colder climates. These additions complement existing SmartCharts functionality already available in the U.S.
Additional improvements include the display of missed approach climb gradient tables on approach charts and climb gradient values on departure procedure charts. These updates provide pilots with critical performance data directly on their charts, further supporting safe and efficient flight operations.
