Jonathan Brasnett, who joined Global Affairs Canada in 2015, has been appointed to a new diplomatic role following his extensive experience in China, trade policy, and sanctions implementation. His background includes advisory positions at the Embassy to China and responsibilities in human rights and Asia-Pacific affairs, positioning him for expanded responsibilities in international engagement.
Julie Crowley, with prior roles in Africa and the African Union, has been reassigned after serving as High Commissioner to Rwanda and Ambassador to Burundi. Her career includes legal and governance work at headquarters and diplomatic postings across multiple African countries, including Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Marie-Andrée Lévesque, a veteran of trade negotiations including the CUSMA agreement, has been appointed to lead the Multilateral Trade Policy and Negotiations Division. Her tenure at the Permanent Mission to the WTO and the Embassy to China underscores her expertise in international trade frameworks.
These appointments reflect Canada’s ongoing adjustments to its diplomatic and trade priorities, with appointees bringing specialized regional and thematic experience to their new roles.
