Minister Anand announces sanctions against defence manufacturing company
Canada imposed sanctions on Streit Group, a defence manufacturer supplying armoured vehicles to Russia’s National Guard, citing its role in supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced sanctions against Streit Group under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations. The company produces armoured vehicles and other military equipment, which have been used by Russia’s National Guard (Rosgvardia) in the war against Ukraine. Canada stated that Streit Group has a history of supplying Russian entities with defence products, contributing to Russia’s military capabilities.
The sanctions aim to disrupt Streit Group’s ability to supply military technology and equipment to Russia, thereby reducing its capacity to sustain the war effort. Canada emphasized that these measures align with similar actions taken by Ukraine in 2023, as well as the European Union and Switzerland in 2025. The announcement underscores Canada’s ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Since 2014, Canada has imposed sanctions on over 3,500 individuals and entities linked to violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and human rights abuses. The government stated that these measures are part of a broader effort to hold accountable those complicit in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The sanctions target Streit Group’s operations and financial ties to Russia’s military-industrial complex.
