Google deepens its commitment to Finland with a €13 billion investment in AI infrastructure
Google will invest €13 billion in Finland over two years to expand digital infrastructure, clean energy, and local partnerships, reinforcing its 15-year presence in the country.
Google announced a €13 billion investment in Finland, focusing on digital infrastructure, clean energy, and local economic partnerships to meet rising demand for its services. The funding will support thousands of jobs and regional environmental projects across the country. This initiative builds on Google’s 15-year history in Finland, where its Hamina data center has already driven significant economic and community benefits.
The investment includes €31 million allocated to Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala over four years for education and economic growth, including AI upskilling programs for 4,400 workers and training for 100 students. During construction from 2027 to 2028, over 37,000 jobs nationwide will be supported, contributing €3.6 billion annually to Finland’s GDP.
Google is partnering on clean energy solutions, including a 22-year agreement to extend the Loviisa nuclear power plant’s life, adding new onshore wind capacity, and contracting a 94-megawatt battery system to stabilize energy prices during high-demand periods.
The investment also funds environmental regeneration projects near Google’s sites, such as native forest and wetland restoration, as well as building recreational trails, public saunas, and fishing piers for local communities.
