Play Points members and comic book fans can score exclusive rewards with Google Play
Google Play is offering exclusive rewards for Play Points members at Comic-Con San Diego from July 23–25, including digital perks and an in-person auction with high-value prizes.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Google Play is hosting an immersive auction house at Comic-Con International in San Diego from July 23 to 25, where Play Points members can trade tokens for physical collectibles and premium prizes. Attendees can earn tokens on-site through activities like a giant gacha machine, with rewards ranging from custom tote bags to limited-edition keepsakes. Priority entry and bonus tokens are available for members based on their tier, including Gold, Platinum, and Diamond levels. The event culminates in a live auction on July 25 at 5 p.m. PT, featuring high-value items such as an Emerald Gemagotchi Necklace and a Herman Miller Vantum Gaming Chair.
Play Points members can also access digital rewards remotely through the Google Play app, including point boosters and exclusive gear. The rewards case feature unlocks for Gold, Platinum, and Diamond members starting July 23, offering additional redemption options. Digital perks are available to all members, regardless of location, via the Play Points Use tab in the app. The program encourages members to earn points through regular Google Play purchases to redeem these rewards.
For those attending Comic-Con, Google Play is providing a structured experience with multiple redemption stations, including a keychain charm bar and a rewards counter. Tokens earned on-site serve as currency throughout the event, ensuring all attendees receive some form of reward. The auction house is designed to be inclusive, with activities tailored to different membership tiers. Members receive bonus tokens at check-in, scaled to their status, enhancing their ability to bid on premium items.
Non-members can join the Google Play Points program to participate in the rewards. The program is free to join and offers points for purchases made on Google Play. Members receive updates via newsletters, including event details and special offers. Google emphasizes that participation is subject to the program’s terms, and user data is handled according to its privacy policy. The initiative aims to reward loyal users while expanding engagement at major fan events like Comic-Con.
