IBM Introduces Apptio AI Value & ROI to Close the Gap Between AI Spend and Business Results
IBM’s Apptio AI Value & ROI tool launches in public preview to help enterprises track AI spending and link investments to measurable business outcomes, addressing a documented gap in ROI measurement.
IBM Apptio, an IBM company, unveiled IBM Apptio AI Value & ROI in public preview on August 6, 2026, offering technology and finance executives a consolidated view of AI spending, including token costs, and its alignment with business results. The tool centralizes AI initiatives and tracks metrics such as revenue, cost, speed, productivity, and risk to connect AI investments with measurable outcomes. IBM Cloudability provides visibility into token spend, while Apptio AI Value & ROI links that spend to business results, enabling enterprises to assess the value of each AI project.
Gartner estimates that 84% of finance leaders have been unable to measure the ROI of AI initiatives, with only about two in five successfully quantifying returns, highlighting the need for structured measurement approaches. IBM states that organizations face pressure to demonstrate AI’s business value, citing a client example where Apptio helped reduce costs by 50%, freeing funds for new AI initiatives.
IBM Apptio AI Value & ROI is available in public preview for IBM Apptio Costing Standard or IBM Apptio AI TCO & Usage customers, with general availability planned for Q3 2026. The tool aims to help leaders determine whether AI investments are generating measurable returns by connecting initiatives to business outcomes and associated technology and labor costs.
Apptio, an IBM company, provides technology spend and value management software, empowering leaders to make financial and operational decisions across IT, multi-cloud FinOps, and digital product development using AI-powered insights.
