Indigo Ag announced the issuance of the first registry-verified agricultural carbon credits generated through direct soil sampling and advanced modeling at scale. These credits follow the Soil Enrichment Protocol developed by the Climate Action Reserve and are third-party verified, ensuring adherence to IPCC guidelines and best practices for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV). The program leverages protocols from leading global registries to enable global scalability and high-quality carbon credit generation.
The Soil Carbon Experiment (SCX), launched by Indigo in 2019, serves as the primary field research initiative to address critical questions about applying MRV technology to carbon credit production. The experiment collects data on soil organic carbon, bulk density, soil health, and management practices from regeneratively and conventionally managed fields, including split-field trials. This long-term data collection is essential for calibrating and validating models to accurately measure the impact of sustainable practices on greenhouse gas abatement and carbon sequestration.
Indigo’s Carbon by Indigo program aims to incentivize regenerative agricultural practices by providing farmers with a credible pathway to benefit from the growing global investment in carbon credits. The program’s focus on high-quality credits ensures net neutral impacts on the atmosphere, addressing anthropogenic climate change driven by excess greenhouse gas emissions. The ability to sell carbon credits as a new revenue stream is expected to fundamentally change farm economics, offering financial incentives beyond traditional yield-based income.
