Introducing Muse: The World’s First Personal AI Agent Built for Everyone

Meta introduced Muse, a personal AI agent that operates within a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, ensuring privacy and security for user data and interactions. The agent communicates through the Muse app or WhatsApp, functioning like a messaging conversation to simplify user interaction. Muse is powered by Muse Spark, Meta’s latest model optimized for real-world tasks such as sending emails or booking travel, requiring no technical expertise to use. It proactively assists with goals by creating personalized plans, coordinating resources, and performing actions like opening browsers or negotiating on behalf of the user.

Unlike traditional agents, Muse continues working in the background after the app is closed, resuming tasks when necessary or seeking approval for actions like purchases or email sends. It adapts to changes in a user’s life, such as adjusting a training plan or optimizing the sale of an item, to deliver improved outcomes with minimal effort. The agent can also handle complex negotiations, such as lowering bills or securing better deals, while maintaining user privacy throughout the process.

For payments, Muse integrates with Link by Stripe, offering purchase protections including coverage for damaged items, price drops, and no-fee returns, with a one-time-use card to safeguard real card details. Additional payment options like Shop Pay are expected soon, along with 1Password support for secure login management within the agent’s workflows. Muse also leverages Instagram data, such as saved recipe reels, to generate grocery lists or suggest dinner party menus while remembering user preferences like dietary restrictions.

Meta emphasized the need for a new secure computing model for personal agents, leading to the development of Muse Secure VM with built-in privacy and security features unavailable in other agents. Later in the year, Meta plans to launch Muse Confidential VM, encrypting the entire virtual machine with a user-held key to prevent even Meta from accessing data or conversations. Muse is currently available in the US on iOS, Android, and muse.ai, with plans to expand to AI glasses, and offers free basic usage with optional subscription tiers for advanced features.
