In 2025, Mowi generated 35,514 tonnes of solid waste across direct operations, with 60% diverted from disposal through reuse or recycling. Only 2.4% of non-hazardous waste—489 tonnes out of 20,484—was sent to landfill. Plastic farming equipment, including nets, feeding pipes, and pens, saw a 97% reuse or recycling rate, totaling 2,288 tonnes, demonstrating progress toward circularity goals.
Mowi converts used netting into polyamide filament for products like textiles and automotive parts through advanced recycling. The company also focuses on reducing plastic packaging, achieving 83% reusable or recyclable packaging in 2025, with 21% containing recycled plastic. Initiatives such as material reduction and shifts to fibre-based materials contributed to a reduction of at least 1,963 tonnes of virgin plastic.
Microplastic monitoring in 2025 confirmed no plastic-related contaminants in Mowi’s salmon. The company collaborates with suppliers to ensure safe handling of retired equipment and maintains control systems for effective waste management. These efforts align with Mowi’s broader strategy to minimize environmental impact while supporting sustainable resource use.
