NASA Astronaut Chris Williams to Discuss Space Station Mission

NASA astronaut Chris Williams is scheduled to hold a news conference at 2:45 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, August 4, from Johnson Space Center in Houston to discuss his recent eight-month mission aboard the International Space Station. Media interested in attending in person must contact the NASA Johnson newsroom by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31. Those participating by phone must register no later than two hours before the event begins. Questions can be submitted by phone up to 15 minutes prior to the call.

Williams returned to Earth on July 26 after completing 241 days in space as a flight engineer for Expedition 73/74. He landed alongside Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, having completed 3,856 orbits of Earth during a journey covering more than 102 million miles. The crew observed the arrival of six visiting spacecraft and the departure of eight during their mission.

During his time aboard the space station, Williams contributed to scientific research and technology demonstrations. His work included advancing studies for new cancer treatments and improving in-space manufacturing of materials used in high-performance computing and electronics. He also conducted two spacewalks to prepare for power system upgrades and replace a faulty joint on the Canadarm2 robotic arm.

The mission’s findings are expected to enhance life on Earth and support future human exploration missions to the Moon and Mars. Williams’ participation in the news conference will provide further insights into the research and operational achievements during his time aboard the orbiting laboratory.
