NASA Shares SpaceX Crew-14 Assignments for Space Station Mission

NASA has assigned four astronauts from three space agencies to the Crew-14 mission, scheduled for no earlier than spring 2027. NASA astronauts Kayla Barron and Chris Birch will serve as spacecraft commander and pilot, respectively, while JAXA’s Makoto Suwa and Roscosmos’ Arutyun Kiviryan will join as mission specialists. The crew will conduct long-duration scientific research and technology demonstrations during their expedition aboard the International Space Station.

Crew-14 marks the 14th commercial crew rotation with SpaceX under NASA’s Low Earth Orbit Program. After docking, the crew will integrate with Expedition 75/76, contributing to ongoing research and operational activities. The mission supports NASA’s goals of preparing for future lunar and Martian exploration while advancing scientific and technological advancements on Earth.

This will be Barron’s second spaceflight, following her 2021 mission aboard SpaceX Crew-3, where she spent 177 days in space and completed two spacewalks. Barron, a U.S. Navy commander, holds degrees in systems engineering and nuclear engineering and has supported Artemis program development. Birch, selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, will make her first spaceflight as pilot.

The Crew-14 mission will also be Suwa’s and Kiviryan’s first spaceflight assignments. Suwa, a former World Bank Group economist, holds a doctorate in geosciences and completed astronaut training in 2024. Kiviryan, a trained rocket engineer, was selected for the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in 2021 and has served as a test cosmonaut since 2023.
