Gamescom Opening Night Live highlights: 20 games coming to PlayStation

PlayStation showcased a diverse lineup of upcoming games during Gamescom Opening Night Live, featuring trailers and announcements for both new and established titles. Among the highlights were Acornia: Mirror Worlds, a management adventure where players run a dessert shop while battling spirits, and Ananta, an urban open-world RPG set in a city inspired by Shanghai and Hangzhou, both launching in 2027. The event also revealed updates for existing games, such as Control Resonant and Crimson Desert, which will receive free enhancements and new content.

Several major franchises were featured, including Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which introduced the Weapons and a new trailer for the Highwind airship, and Metro 2039: Renegade, offering a first-person glimpse into the game’s mechanics and combat. New titles like Exodus, a co-op action game launching April 2027, and Ontos, a spiritual successor to Soma exploring consciousness transfer, were also announced. The event emphasized PlayStation 5 exclusives and updates, with release windows spanning from February to December 2027.

The announcements included a mix of genres, from creature-catching RPG Aniimo to the turn-based tactics game Ultimate. Square Enix’s Revelation trailer for Final Fantasy VII showcased the game’s scale and combat, while Path of Exile 2 Version 1.0 was confirmed for a December 11 launch, promising significant updates. Ubisoft introduced Rainbow Six Tactics, a turn-based single-player experience, and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy revealed its cast and first-person perspective ahead of its August 27 release.

Other notable reveals included LEGO Skylines, a cozy city builder, and Turok: Origins, an action sci-fi shooter set for Spring 2027. Psychological horror game Valor Mortis and fantasy title Tides of Annihilation were also highlighted, along with Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, a third-person action-adventure exploring forbidden magic. The event underscored PlayStation’s commitment to expanding its library with a variety of experiences for players.
