PlayStation will host a State of Play broadcast on August 17 at 7:00pm PT, offering a nearly 20-minute deep dive into Phantom Blade Zero. The session will stream globally at multiple times, including 10:00pm ET and 3:00am BST on August 18. The event aims to showcase gameplay systems, combat mechanics, and the game’s dark wuxia setting, the Phantom World, beyond what a trailer can convey.
Actor and martial arts expert Donnie Yen serves as creative consultant for Phantom Blade Zero, contributing to combat design and portraying the character Mó Yuan through facial and motion capture. Yen’s involvement underscores the game’s focus on authentic kung fu combat. The State of Play will introduce new characters and highlight the depth of player customization in combat builds.
The pre-order trailer revealed early moments of protagonist Soul’s journey, including combat atop a speeding wagon and confrontations with former allies like The Hunt. Pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero are now open on PlayStation 5, with early unlocks for the Treasure Basin accessory and Legacy outfit. These items are also obtainable through in-game progression.
Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for release on October 29, 2026. The August 17 State of Play will be available on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels. Sony Interactive Entertainment noted that the broadcast may include copyrighted music, advising creators to omit such content when saving or reposting segments to avoid licensing issues.
