Octopus Energy has launched Cosy Cooler, a portable indoor cooling unit designed to convert its Cosy heat pump heating system into a dual-function air conditioning solution. The device circulates chilled water supplied by a compatible Cosy heat pump through existing radiator pipework, removing the need for additional refrigerant-based indoor split systems. Measuring 720 mm × 430 mm × 350 mm, the unit operates as a water-to-air cooling device, using a fan to distribute cooled air into rooms. Installation connects directly to radiator pipework, simplifying setup in homes already equipped with Octopus Energy’s heat pumps.

The Cosy Cooler is positioned as a compact alternative to traditional air conditioning, with a footprint comparable to a tall kitchen bin. It can cool single rooms or operate up to two to three units simultaneously across different rooms, depending on the Cosy heat pump model in use. The company states that installation takes approximately three hours, leveraging existing pipework to reduce complexity. Octopus Energy emphasizes that the unit eliminates the need for outdoor hoses or additional refrigerant systems, streamlining the cooling process.

Octopus Energy has priced the Cosy Cooler between GBP 500 ($670) and GBP 600, with commercial availability scheduled for 2027. The device functions by circulating chilled water through an indoor heat exchanger, drawing on the heat pump’s cooling capability. While the company has begun testing in residential and office environments, it has not yet released a firm commercial launch date or a complete technical datasheet.

The Cosy Cooler operates as a water-to-air cooling unit, using the heat pump’s cooling function to supply chilled water via radiator pipework. Octopus Energy has not disclosed key performance metrics such as rated cooling capacity, electrical consumption, airflow rate, acoustic performance, or seasonal cooling efficiency figures. The company has also not published detailed operating conditions, leaving some technical specifications pending ahead of its planned market introduction.
