Baldur's Gate 3 Act Two Expansion mod, out now in beta, adds a whole new region to explore after dealing with the Shadow Curse
A new Baldur's Gate 3 mod adds a mid-campaign region, The Chionthar Wilds, between Acts Two and Three, offering quests and dungeons for mid-level parties.
A custom campaign mod for Baldur's Gate 3, titled Act Two Expansion, has launched in beta after nearly two years of development by modder SquallyDaBeanz. The mod introduces a new explorable region, The Chionthar Wilds, positioned between the game's second and third acts, expanding the main questline with additional missions and dungeons. Players are tasked with crossing the Chionthar River and engaging in a climactic battle against the Absolute's army at Rivington, providing a mid-campaign challenge for parties at levels eight to ten.
The mod is playable from start to finish but remains in an uneven state of polish, with the creator warning of potential game-breaking bugs and softlocks. SquallyDaBeanz advises frequent saves and caution when progressing to the finale, noting that unfinished camp events in the base game may prevent completion. The mod also lacks the same level of reactivity as the base game, limiting experimental choices and dynamic consequences.
New non-player characters in the expansion feature subtitled dialogue only, as voice acting is not currently planned by the modder. Multiplayer compatibility is supported, provided all players install the mod and avoid mismatched files, allowing friends to join the adventure together.
To access the expansion, players must download either the Main Download or Quickstart version. The Main Download is intended for new playthroughs, while the Quickstart version allows immediate access to The Chionthar Wilds. The mod's description includes instructions for reaching the new region in the Main Download version.
