Developer Unknown Worlds announced the next round of updates for Subnautica 2, labeled as the "voyage to early access 2.0," featuring a new region, creature, Tadpole chassis, biomod tweaks, and creature behavior adjustments. Creative director Anthony Gallegos described the upcoming patch as "the most substantial update since release," emphasizing its darkness, threat, and beauty. The new region will include additional plot elements for both human colonists and other beings, expanding the game’s narrative scope.

The update introduces the Frog, a new Tadpole chassis resembling the Prawn Suit from the original game, equipped with submersible arms and legs. Players will also receive new biomods and a circular base room design, allowing equidistant positioning from walls. These additions aim to enhance mobility and base customization, addressing longstanding player feedback.

A key gameplay adjustment removes the requirement to equip a dash biomod to perform dashes while wearing fins, streamlining movement for players. The update also includes adjustments to the Collector Leviathan, now featured as a guest star in Dave the Diver, introducing new behaviors to the creature.

Unknown Worlds has not provided release dates for the update. The developer’s announcement follows a period of internal challenges, including firings and disputes over publisher earn-outs, which the studio appears to have navigated. The update reflects a focus on expanding content and refining mechanics based on community input.
