Pratt & Whitney, an RTX subsidiary, announced the successful completion of a key design milestone for its Valox™ 1500 engine at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 21, 2026. The engine is designed for semi-autonomous collaborative platforms and aims to balance performance, affordability, and rapid deployment. A digital assessment confirmed the design meets these criteria, aligning with emerging operational requirements.
Jill Albertelli, president of Pratt & Whitney's Military Engines business, stated the milestone demonstrates the company's ability to deliver critical capabilities to military users efficiently. She highlighted the engine's optimized design for reduced mission life and accelerated development timelines, positioning it as a scalable propulsion solution for new operational demands.
The company attributed progress to proactive investments in digital engineering, which reduced development risks and enabled a focus on maturing the design for subsequent ground testing. Pratt & Whitney secured a contract valued at over $10 million from the U.S. Air Force in late 2025 to advance the engine's development.
Pratt & Whitney introduced the Valox™ engine family to meet the speed, precision, and affordability needs of modern collaborative combat systems and other emerging applications. The Valox™ 1500 is part of this broader initiative, designed to support a range of platforms with advanced propulsion technology.
