RTX's Raytheon awarded $1.8 billion hardware production and sustainment contract for SPY-6 family of radars

RTX’s Raytheon, an RTX business, received a $1.8 billion contract extension from the U.S. Navy for continued production and sustainment of the SPY-6 radar family. The agreement builds on a 2022 hardware production and sustainment contract, with options that could increase the total value to $3.3 billion. The contract reflects the Navy’s confidence in Raytheon’s ability to deliver scalable radar solutions, according to Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon.

The SPY-6 radar is currently deployed on two commissioned U.S. Navy ships and installed on 11 others undergoing testing, with plans to equip more than 50 ships over the next decade. The radar family is designed to provide advanced sensing and multi-mission readiness to address evolving threats. Raytheon has invested over $800 million to modernize manufacturing facilities and expand production capacity, aiming to double output by 2028.

Raytheon’s SPY-6 radars are based on over a decade of design, testing, and manufacturing experience, with successful at-sea performance validating their reliability. The company is expanding its engineering workforce in Andover, Massachusetts, to support the program, offering roles for emerging talent, experienced professionals, and veterans.
