Samsung Electronics announced that Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key feature will be extended to select Volkswagen ID. electric vehicles in Europe, including models such as the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.Buzz. Compatible Galaxy smartphones will allow users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles without a physical key, using NFC and UWB technologies for secure access. The integration begins rolling out on August 18, 2026, for vehicles equipped with ID. software 6.0.1.
Digital Key functionality is secured by Samsung Knox and requires biometric or PIN verification for every interaction, ensuring protection against unauthorized access. The system also supports remote trunk opening and allows users to manage or remove Digital Keys via Samsung Find if a device is lost or stolen. UWB technology, standardized by the Car Connectivity Consortium, enhances reliability and reduces the risk of unintended entry attempts.
The expansion marks a collaboration between Samsung and Volkswagen to integrate digital key technology into Volkswagen’s ID. electric vehicle lineup. Supported models include the ID.Polo, ID.Cross, ID.3neo, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, and ID.Buzz, with availability varying by market and vehicle configuration.
Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key feature is designed to streamline vehicle access by consolidating digital essentials into a single secure platform. The integration with Volkswagen’s ID. family aligns with the automaker’s broader strategy to advance sustainable mobility solutions in Europe.
