Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser® Spaceplane Successfully Completed Milestone at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center
Sierra Space completed acoustic testing for its Dream Chaser spaceplane at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, validating its readiness for launch vibrations ahead of its first mission under a NASA resupply contract.

Sierra Space announced the successful completion of launch acoustic testing for its Dream Chaser spaceplane, Tenacity, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The test simulated the intense sound waves and vibrations produced during a rocket launch using 90 stacked speakers. The spaceplane was positioned with its wings stowed to replicate its launch configuration inside a 5-meter payload fairing. This milestone confirms the spacecraft’s structural integrity and the durability of its critical electronic systems.
Dr. Dan Polis, Dream Chaser program manager and vice president of Engineering at Sierra Space, stated the spaceplane is designed to carry both pressurized and unpressurized payloads while offering reusability and gentle runway landings. He highlighted its suitability for time-sensitive and critical missions, including civilian and national security operations. Dream Chaser has previously passed EMI/EMC testing, high-speed tow testing, and a post-landing recovery rehearsal, demonstrating its command and telemetry capabilities with Mission Control in Louisville, Colo.
Following the acoustic testing, Dream Chaser was transported to Colorado for final modifications and mission-specific upgrades. The spaceplane is scheduled to operate as a free-flying platform on its first mission under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services-2 (CRS-2) contract. This contract marks a key step in Sierra Space’s role in supporting NASA’s resupply efforts to the International Space Station.
