The Justice Department announced the disruption of a Hamas fundraising scheme, seizing over $560,000 in cryptocurrency intended for the group’s military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades. Officials stated the seizures targeted online platforms used for recruitment and donations, aiming to cut off financial resources linked to terrorist activities. The operation follows prior efforts to dismantle Hamas’s digital networks and prevent funding flows through cryptocurrency.
Assistant Attorney General John A. Eisenberg emphasized the seizures were part of a broader strategy to dismantle Hamas’s operational capacity. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro warned that Hamas’s fundraising networks are vulnerable, vowing continued action to disrupt its financial operations. The FBI’s Brett Leatherman highlighted the use of cryptocurrency and online platforms by Hamas to solicit global donations outside formal financial systems.
Court documents revealed a Hamas-associated group chat on an encrypted platform directed supporters to a fundraising website with rotating cryptocurrency addresses. Investigators identified and seized approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency across three warrants issued in March, June, and October 2025, tracing funds intended for Hamas’s Al Qassam Brigades.
The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, alongside other units, seized domains and servers linked to Hamas’s main website, AlQassam.ps, intercepting donations and gathering intelligence on thousands of individuals attempting to donate. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist financing networks and disrupt their online recruitment and fundraising capabilities.
