The British and Danish Embassies in Tunisia invited girls to apply for the Ambassador for a Day competition, marking International Day of the Girl on 11 October. Over 180 applications were received from across Tunisia, with winners and runners-up already contacted. Due to the volume of entries, individual feedback cannot be provided.

The programme is expanding in 2026, adding the Embassy of the Netherlands and the United Nations in Tunisia as partners. Two winners will shadow the Dutch Ambassador, H.E. Ms Dewi van de Weerd, and the UN Resident Coordinator, H.E. Mrs Rana Taha, to observe diplomacy and leadership practices.

The competition asked applicants to consider how technology and AI can support women’s and girls’ rights, the challenges involved, and what changes they would make to laws and social attitudes to create safer online spaces. Girls aged 15 to 18 living in Tunisia were eligible to apply.

Applications closed at 11:59pm on Friday 25 September 2026. Winners will spend a day learning about international engagement and leadership through first-hand experience with senior diplomats.
