Six Solomon Islands professionals have returned home after completing master’s degrees at leading UK universities under the Chevening Scholarship programme. The scholars bring expertise in tropical medicine, environmental law, international human rights, commerce, and telecommunications, gained during a one-year study sponsored by the UK Government. The scholars studied at institutions including the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Aberdeen, and University College London, all ranked among the UK’s top universities.
The scholars achieved outstanding success in their studies and are now positioned to contribute to their professional fields and broader development in Solomon Islands. They join the Chevening global alumni network, which includes Peter Kenilorea Jnr, the first Chevening scholar from Solomon Islands. The programme has supported over 60,000 professionals worldwide since 1983.
High Commissioner Paul Turner and Deputy High Commissioner Cameron Millar welcomed the scholars and alumni members at a group photo event. The UK Government’s flagship international scholarship programme aims to foster global connections and leadership development. The scholars’ return marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Solomon Islands and the UK.
The Chevening programme is recognised as the most prestigious international scholarship initiative globally. It has produced numerous national and global leaders in law, science, and other fields, underscoring its impact on professional and societal advancement.
