Deployment Storage billing begins for existing Pro teams

Vercel announced that billing for Deployment Storage and Functions Storage will commence for all Pro teams at a rate of $0.10 per GB-month. Teams have been notified via email regarding the specific start date for their billing cycle. The company emphasized that this change applies uniformly across all Pro teams, ensuring transparency in cost structure. Users are advised to review their email for personalized details about when billing will begin for their respective accounts.

To manage storage expenses, Vercel is reducing the default deployment retention period to 30 days. Deployments older than this threshold will be automatically deleted starting October 23, unless users opt out through their retention settings before the deadline. This adjustment aims to balance storage costs while maintaining necessary deployment history for teams. Retention settings already set to 30 days or fewer will remain unchanged, minimizing disruption for existing configurations.

Vercel outlined specific deployment retention policies for different deployment states, including Pre-Production, Production, Canceled, and Errored deployments. The company noted that shorter retention periods reduce stored history, which may limit the ability to perform rollbacks. Users are encouraged to review and adjust their retention settings to align with their operational needs and storage budget constraints.

The company provided guidance on reducing future deployment storage costs, recommending the removal of unnecessary build files, migrating large assets to Vercel Blob, and optimizing Function bundle sizes. These steps are intended to help teams minimize storage usage and associated expenses.
