Vercel has launched a free tier for Speed Insights, enabling users to monitor real-user performance metrics without cost. Previously restricted to a single Hobby project, the free tier now extends across all projects, eliminating the need to upgrade to retain access. Users who previously paid for Speed Insights will retain their existing capabilities and pricing, with only the product name updated to Speed Insights Plus.
The free tier provides a high-level overview of performance based on real visitor data, replacing the earlier limitation of a single project. To begin reporting, users must install the @vercel/speed-insights package in their project or access the Speed Insights dashboard. This change removes barriers for developers seeking basic performance insights without financial commitment.
Speed Insights Plus, the paid tier, introduces deeper diagnostics, including slow-route identification and detailed breakdowns of performance bottlenecks. It also includes historical data to track performance trends over time, offering a more comprehensive view than the free tier. Additional features include access to Drains and the Vercel CLI for external data processing.
The update simplifies access to performance monitoring by decoupling the free tier from project limits. Users can now evaluate their site’s real-user performance without immediate cost, while those requiring advanced analysis can opt for Speed Insights Plus.
