Volkswagen announced that the Golf GTI EDITION 50 has achieved the fastest lap time for a front-wheel drive production vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The 20.832-kilometre circuit was completed in 7:44.523 minutes by racing driver Benjamin Leuchter, who drove the car under favorable weather conditions. The model’s 239 kW (325 PS) output, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.3 seconds, and 270 km/h top speed contributed to this performance. Volkswagen confirmed the car’s position as the most powerful and dynamically precise Golf GTI in its range.

The Golf GTI EDITION 50 features a MacPherson front axle and a four-link rear axle, with a chassis lowered by 15 mm compared to a standard Golf. Standard equipment includes DCC adaptive chassis control. An optional GTI Performance package EDITION 50 further lowers the chassis by five millimetres, adds a lightweight R-Performance exhaust system with titanium rear silencers, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, and Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tyres measuring 235/35 R19 91Y. The record lap was completed with this performance package installed.

Benjamin Leuchter, Volkswagen’s test and development driver, highlighted the Golf GTI EDITION 50’s balance of power and handling.
