Amazon Web Services has added user-managed setup (3LO) for SharePoint, OneDrive, and Confluence data sources in Amazon Bedrock Managed Knowledge Base. Previously, users needed third-party admin credentials to configure these sources, a process that could be slow and restrictive. The new method allows users to authenticate directly with their existing credentials, streamlining the setup to a few minutes.

Teams can now quickly prototype AI assistants using their SharePoint documents, OneDrive files, or Confluence wikis without requiring IT administrator intervention. This change removes dependency on service account credentials, making it easier for non-admin users to connect their data sources to Amazon Bedrock.

The user-managed setup complements the existing service account authentication method, providing a faster onboarding path while maintaining enterprise-grade programmatic access for production environments. Users can choose the approach that best fits their workflow and security requirements.
