Amazon EVS now supports i7i.metal-48xl Amazon EC2 instance type
Amazon Elastic VM Service now supports the i7i.metal-48xl EC2 instance, powered by 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, offering higher core counts and improved cost-performance for VMware workloads on AWS.
Amazon Web Services announced that Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) now supports the i7i.metal-48xl Amazon EC2 bare-metal instance type. This addition provides customers with a higher core-count option featuring newer-generation processors, aimed at delivering cost-performance benefits for VMware-based workloads running on AWS. The update expands available configurations for running virtual machines within Amazon EVS environments, allowing businesses to scale cloud operations incrementally based on demand.
The i7i.metal-48xl instance is powered by 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, offering up to 23% better compute performance and over 10% better price performance compared to i4i instances. AWS states these improvements enable more efficient execution of x86-based storage-optimized workloads. The instance type also features a larger memory and storage footprint, allowing customers to consolidate more virtual machines on fewer EVS hosts.
This configuration supports vertical scaling of operations while reducing the number of required EVS hosts. It also enables the use of newer VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x features, including memory tiering and automations such as the Amazon EVS Deployment Orchestrator, which simplifies onboarding processes for new workloads.
The i7i.metal-48xl instance type is available in AWS Regions where both Amazon EVS and Amazon EC2 i7i instances are supported. Customers can verify regional availability through the provided Amazon EVS regional availability page and Amazon EC2 i7i regional availability page.
