AWS Elemental MediaTailor Monetization Functions adds ad response hooks
AWS Elemental MediaTailor now offers two new monetization hooks to customize ad insertion workflows, enabling finer control over ad selection and delivery without additional middleware.
AWS Elemental MediaTailor has introduced two new lifecycle hooks for monetization functions, expanding its ad insertion capabilities. The post ad decision server (ADS) response hook activates after MediaTailor processes an ADS response and resolves VAST wrappers but before ads are selected. This allows customers to integrate secondary ad sources, enforce content or brand policies, or insert house ads when primary demand is insufficient.
The pre manifest insertion hook operates just before MediaTailor returns an ad pod to the viewer, receiving every personalized ad break in a single call. Customers can use it for final validation of ad content, including inserting personalized slates if no other ads can fill a break. Both hooks are designed to maintain viewer experience by failing open, ensuring default ad insertion continues if a hook encounters errors or timeouts.
Pre-built recipes in the MediaTailor console provide starting templates for implementing these hooks, simplifying integration for common use cases. The hooks are available in all AWS Regions where AWS Elemental MediaTailor is offered, with no additional middleware required between MediaTailor and the ADS.
To implement the new hooks, customers can access the MediaTailor console, consult the user guide for detailed instructions, and review pricing on the MediaTailor pricing page. The changes aim to give broadcasters and content owners more granular control over ad monetization without disrupting playback.
