On July 15, Citadel Securities executed a tokenization transaction using the DTCC Tokenization Service, marking its involvement in a production initiative ahead of the service’s planned October 2026 launch. The firm leveraged Fireblocks’ digital asset infrastructure to create a tokenized representation of U.S. Treasuries on the Canton Network, demonstrating the platform’s capacity to handle large-scale institutional requirements. Citadel Securities transferred the tokenized securities from its Fireblocks wallet to counterparty wallets registered with DTC, including those of BNP Paribas and Société Générale, before posting them as collateral to CME to fund trading activity.

The transaction highlighted the operational and capital efficiency gains from moving high-quality assets onchain, enabling 24/7 settlement flexibility compared to traditional fixed-hour processes. Fireblocks’ pre-existing integration with the Canton Network allowed Citadel Securities to reduce time to market and minimize operational complexity by using familiar infrastructure. The pilot served as a proof point for the DTCC Tokenization Service’s readiness ahead of its voluntary launch for eligible DTC Participants.

The DTCC Tokenization Service is expected to support eligible securities including U.S. Treasury securities, Russell 1000 Index securities, and major market index-tracking ETFs upon its October 2026 launch. Citadel Securities’ participation underscores the service’s potential to streamline collateral management and trading workflows for large institutions. Fireblocks’ role in the initiative reinforces its position as a partner for institutions pursuing digital asset strategies at scale.

Fireblocks describes itself as a digital asset infrastructure provider trusted by thousands of organizations, including Worldpay, BNY, Galaxy, and Revolut, to secure transactions across 200+ blockchains. The company positions its platform as capable of supporting custody, tokenization, trading, and compliance reporting for institutional and consumer-facing use cases.
