Firefly Aerospace announced a multi-launch agreement with SSC Space for two Alpha rocket launches from Esrange Space Center in Sweden, owned and operated by SSC Space. The missions, scheduled for no earlier than 2028, will serve Sweden’s national security customers and additional commercial rideshare customers, marking a step toward orbital launch capabilities from mainland Europe. Firefly’s Alpha rocket will provide the launch services under a ‘launch as a franchise’ model, addressing critical needs for government and commercial customers.

Under the agreement, SSC Space secured full payload capacity and can allocate space to government and commercial customers, offering flexible accommodations for the European satellite market. The partnership follows the establishment of transatlantic regulatory frameworks and completion of key infrastructure at Launch Complex 3C, including a launch control center, payload processing facility, and launch vehicle integration building.

The collaboration strengthens mainland Europe’s space capabilities and competitiveness while enhancing resilience and strategic autonomy in the defense domain. SSC Space and Firefly Aerospace are progressing through final pad construction at Esrange Space Center, with infrastructure including tracking systems, security facilities, and storage now in place.

Firefly Aerospace, a space and defense technology company, focuses on reliable launch, landing, and operation of space systems.
