Garmin adds over a dozen more Guided Visual Approaches to aviation database lineup

Garmin has announced the addition of 18 new Guided Visual Approaches at 13 airports, including Las Vegas (KLAS), Oakland (KOAK), and West Chicago (KDPA). The update, developed with Hughes Aerospace, brings the total to 64 approaches in 48 challenging airport environments. These procedures are now available via flyGarmin.com, providing pilots with lateral and vertical guidance similar to traditional instrument approaches. The database supports autopilot coupling, allowing pilots to focus on external visual cues during final approach.
The new Guided Visual Approaches include georeferenced approach charts accessible through compatible Garmin avionics, such as the GTN and GTN Xi series navigators and select integrated flight decks. Pilots using Garmin Pilot on Apple devices can also view these charts in the mobile app. The procedures are designed to improve approach stability, particularly in high-terrain or obstacle-rich areas, and assist with nighttime navigation in urban environments. Compatibility requires WAAS-equipped avionics capable of RF legs, with operational capability verified in the aircraft’s pilot operating handbook.
Garmin Pilot users with a Premium subscription can access Guided Visual FliteCharts, which can be loaded into flight plans for in-flight reference. The procedures are purchasable on flyGarmin.com, with options including a OnePak database offering comprehensive coverage. The collaboration with Hughes Aerospace, a global provider of instrument flight procedure design and PBN implementation, underscores the technical foundation of these new approaches.
