Minister Anand meets with United Arab Emirates’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand met with UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The ministers highlighted progress in negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and recognized the UAE’s role at the Canada Investment Summit 2026 held in Toronto. They also discussed strengthening a strategic partnership and deepening trade and investment ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, Minister Anand expressed Canada’s support for the UAE and Gulf partners amid regional tensions caused by Iran and its proxies. She condemned recent Iranian strikes targeting UAE infrastructure and vessels belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
