Minister LeBlanc and Canada’s Chief Negotiator update provincial and territorial Trade Ministers on Canada-U.S. trade negotiations
Canada’s Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Chief Negotiator Janice Charette briefed provincial and territorial counterparts on intensified U.S. trade talks ahead of an August 19 tariff deadline, seeking relief from sectoral and new Section 338 tariffs while advancing CUSMA modernization.
Canada’s Minister responsible for trade, Dominic LeBlanc, and Chief Trade Negotiator Janice Charette updated provincial and territorial ministers on ongoing Canada-U.S. trade negotiations, emphasizing efforts to resolve outstanding trade issues before the August 19 deadline. The discussions focused on securing relief from existing sectoral tariffs and preventing the implementation of new Section 338 tariffs planned by the United States. Both officials also highlighted progress toward modernizing the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
Minister LeBlanc and Mme Charette, participating virtually from Washington, D.C., underscored Canada’s commitment to a collaborative approach with provinces and territories, described as a Team Canada strategy.
