Personalize the content you see on Search, Discover, and News
Google introduces new personalization features across Search, Discover, and Google News, allowing users to prioritize preferred publishers, refine feeds, and customize audio briefings.
Google has launched a 'Preferred Source' button enabling users to mark favorite publishers, which will then appear more prominently in search results and AI summaries. This feature also allows users to return directly to their place on the publisher’s page after clicking. Over 600,000 unique sources have already been selected by users. Publishers can embed the button by accessing code provided in Google Search Central documentation.
The Discover feed will soon allow users to type specific interests directly into the app to refine their content. For example, users can request topics like 'eco-friendly kitchen reno ideas' or 'weekend road trips excluding camping.' The feed will adjust dynamically based on these inputs and retain user preferences over time. This update aims to make the Discover experience more tailored and responsive to individual tastes.
Google News users on Android can now customize their daily audio briefings by selecting specific topics and sources. The briefings will include clear attributions and links to full articles, allowing users to explore stories in greater depth. The feature leverages publishers participating in Google’s news AI pilot program to provide more comprehensive coverage of key stories.
These updates collectively aim to give users greater control over their Google experience by prioritizing preferred content and refining feeds in real time. The new features also support publishers by fostering stronger direct connections with readers. Google emphasizes that these personalization tools are designed to make the platform more responsive to individual preferences while maintaining transparency and user choice.
