Nissan to supply GEN4 powertrains to Andretti Formula E

Nissan announced a multi-year agreement to supply its GEN4 powertrains to Andretti Formula E beginning in Season 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The collaboration aligns with Nissan’s global electrification strategy and reinforces its long-term commitment to the series. Formula E serves as a key platform for testing and developing electric vehicle technology, with Nissan aiming to transfer racing insights to road vehicles as part of its Ambition 2030 goals. The partnership will run through the GEN4 era, which extends until 2030, marking Nissan’s continued presence in the championship.

Andretti Formula E, a long-standing competitor in Formula E, secured the 2023 FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Championship with Jake Dennis. The team’s experience and competitive record make it a strong partner for Nissan as both organizations enter the next phase of the series. The collaboration will include technical exchange and joint development, with four Nissan-powered cars competing in the championship. The agreement was announced in Tokyo ahead of the Japanese capital’s first-ever night E-Prix, coinciding with Nissan’s final home race weekend of the GEN3 era.

The partnership will benefit from the expertise of two FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Champions: Oliver Rowland, the reigning title holder, and Jake Dennis. Both drivers will contribute technical feedback as the collaboration progresses through the GEN4 era. Beyond powertrain supply, Nissan and Andretti Formula E will work closely on engineering and performance optimization, leveraging their combined experience in motorsport. The collaboration aims to maximize performance in one of the world’s most competitive electric racing series.

Nissan made its Formula E debut in Season 5 (2018/19) and became the first Japanese manufacturer to enter the series. In 2022, Nissan acquired the e.dams team, taking full ownership of its Formula E operations. The company has committed to the GEN4 era, reinforcing its role in advancing electric mobility. Formula E, certified as a net-zero carbon sport since 2020, serves as a testing ground for sustainable mobility solutions, with Nissan contributing to the championship’s goals of reducing emissions and promoting electric vehicle adoption globally.
