The Witcher 3 Remastered has scuppered an ambitious cut plague quest restoration mod, but there'll be "something extra" in the update that gets it working again
The Witcher 3 Remastered update temporarily breaks the WAR Project mod restoring a cut plague questline, but modders promise a remastered-compatible update with English voice acting within a week.
The remastered version of The Witcher 3 has launched with significant technical changes that disrupt existing mods, including the WAR Project, which aims to restore a previously abandoned plague-themed questline. Mod developers confirmed the issue stems from extensive alterations made to the base game during remastering. They emphasized the disruption is temporary and not due to any fault in the mod itself.
Modders behind the WAR Project have been collaborating with CD Projekt Red and Yigsoft for months to test the remaster and its mod.io integration, ensuring compatibility for future updates. Ferroxius, a developer, stated the team is now familiar with the remaster’s improvements and expects a stable update soon. The delay was unavoidable as development shifts during remastering prevented earlier stability.
The upcoming update will restore the mod’s functionality on the remastered version and include English voice acting, originally planned for a smaller mid-September release. MerseyRockoff, another developer, confirmed the phase 1 update will launch within a week of the remaster’s release, featuring fixes and new voice lines. The mod will thereafter be exclusive to the remastered version of the game.
The WAR Project’s full scope includes twelve quests, with four currently playable in the demo released in June and four more in active development. The team also addressed recasting Vernon Roche’s voice actor following a reported misconduct incident. The full expansion is planned for release in 2027, with updates rolling out in phases over the coming months.
