Samsung has announced a collaboration with Neuroscape to conduct a remote study examining cognitive changes across adulthood. The research will utilize biometric data from the Galaxy Watch and cognitive self-assessments from the Galaxy Tab A9 to identify behavioral and physiological predictors of cognitive decline. The study is part of Samsung’s Open Innovation Initiative, which seeks to expand the role of personal devices in digital health. Participants will be enrolled through the Neuroscape-developed Nexus platform, which facilitates online trial activities including enrollment, consent, and assessments.

The study will involve two groups: an intervention group and a control group. Participants will receive a Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Tab A9 upon enrollment. The intervention group will engage in cognitively challenging games developed by Neuroscape, which have previously shown potential to improve cognitive functions affected by aging. All participants will complete digital cognitive assessments at three stages: before the study, after the intervention, and nine months later.

Neuroscape will provide participants with access to an AI chatbot and virtual assistant through a partnership with Helpsquad, while didit.me will assist with identity verification during enrollment. The study aims to advance remote clinical trial methodologies and contribute to the development of neuroscience-based predictors of cognition across the adult lifespan. Interested individuals can sign up at neuroscape.ucsf.edu/tahda-study.

The project reflects Samsung’s broader effort to integrate digital health tools into consumer devices. Praveen Raja of Samsung Research America highlighted the potential of combining Galaxy Watch biometric data with Neuroscape’s interventions to enhance digital health ecosystems. Theodore Zanto of Neuroscape emphasized the study’s goal to set new standards for remote trials and develop digital treatments for cognitive decline.
