Andy Lord appointed Interim Chair of NAD Group Advisory Board
Andy Lord has been appointed Interim Chair of the National Armaments Director Group Advisory Board by the UK Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, serving until April 2027.
Andy Lord has been appointed Interim Chair of the National Armaments Director (NAD) Group Advisory Board, a role created to provide independent oversight of the Group’s strategy, performance, and risk management. The appointment was made by Luke Pollard, Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, and follows the NAD Group’s shift toward a simpler, more integrated governance model. Lord brings extensive experience from his current position as Commissioner of Transport for London and prior roles in senior engineering and operational leadership.
The Advisory Board’s primary function is to offer independent support and challenge to the NAD and senior leadership, ensuring the Group operates effectively and remains accountable. Lord’s appointment reflects his eight-year tenure as a Non-Executive Director and Board member for Defence Equipment & Support, where he contributed as a trusted advisor. His role will focus on strengthening decision-making, accountability, and performance management across the NAD Group.
Lord expressed his enthusiasm for the role, highlighting the expertise within the NAD Group and the opportunity to enhance integration and operational excellence. He emphasized the importance of building on existing strengths to deliver greater impact in support of Defence missions. The Board will operate with a high-support, high-challenge approach, empowering leaders while maintaining accountability for results.
The Advisory Board includes six Non-Executive Members (NEMs) who provide independent perspectives and strategic oversight. These members are Robert MacLeod, Tony Meggs, Tracy Sheedy, Carolyn Battersby, Claire Hawkings, and Sarah Albon. The Board is supported by three specialist committees covering nominations and remuneration, audit and risk assurance, and safety and security.
