Inside the Vercel intern experience
Vercel’s winter internship program integrated 2023 interns into core engineering teams, where they shipped features used by millions, contributed to enterprise deals, and built systems adopted by major companies.
Vercel’s winter internship cohort worked on core products including the CDN, v0, financial infrastructure, and AI Gateway, with interns treated as full engineering team members from day one. Projects ranged from customer-facing features to backend systems, with interns contributing to products used by millions. Interns reported high autonomy, direct customer interactions, and visibility through changelogs and public demos. The program emphasized ownership, with interns leading projects that shipped to production within weeks.
Yash contributed to Vercel’s CDN stack, building Project-level routing that allowed customers to update routing rules without redeploying projects. His work included API endpoints, CLI commands, and AI-powered route generation, adopted by hundreds of teams shortly after launch. He later worked on Firewall and Security products, shipping a CLI command for firewall configuration and an AI-powered Firewall Rule Builder. Yash highlighted Vercel’s culture of autonomy and direct customer engagement during his internship.
Kavin worked across v0’s platform, building Folders and Projects features, redesigning the library page, and implementing manual commit functionality to improve version history. His infrastructure work reduced memory usage and costs for 80% of sandboxes by tiering VM pools. Kavin also rebuilt v0’s Slack agent, adding preview deployments, improved thread history, and full PR flow tracking, transforming it into a reliable tool for teams.
Mingchung contributed over 250 PRs, including the v1/billing/charges API and vercel usage CLI command in FOCUS v1.3 FinOps format, adopted by Meta, Notion, and Porsche. He designed and built Vercel’s core entitlements system, incorporating strong consistency guarantees and transactional outboxing, later rolling it out to production. His final project was Vercel Buy, a billing service for agent credits and subscriptions, and he will join Vercel full-time after graduation.
