Amazon Web Services (AWS) has made Amazon EC2 Storage Optimized I8g instances generally available in the Europe (Paris) and Asia Pacific (Jakarta) regions. These instances are powered by AWS Graviton4 processors and are designed for storage-intensive workloads, offering up to 65% better real-time storage performance per terabyte compared to I4g instances. The instances leverage third-generation AWS Nitro SSDs with local NVMe storage, reducing storage I/O latency by up to 50% and variability by up to 60%.

AWS states that I8g instances are optimized for I/O-intensive workloads requiring rapid data access and low latency, including transactional databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and HBase, as well as NoSQL solutions like Aerospike, MongoDB, ClickHouse, and Apache Druid. The instances also support real-time analytics platforms such as Apache Spark, data lakehouses, and AI large language model preprocessing for training.

The I8g instances are available in eleven configurations, including two bare metal sizes, offering up to 1.5 TiB of memory and 45 TB of local instance storage. They provide up to 100 Gbps of network bandwidth and 60 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth for Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), enhancing performance for demanding workloads.

Organizations can access I8g instances through the AWS Management Console, AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI), and AWS SDKs. Additional resources, including details on AWS Graviton processors and instance specifications, are available on the provided AWS documentation pages.
