Apple unveils a more powerful Mac mini featuring the all-new M6 and M5 Pro

Apple announced the new Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro chips, positioning the desktop as a versatile solution for both consumer and professional workloads. The M6 model offers up to 4x faster AI performance, 2x faster graphics and storage, and 40% faster CPU performance compared to its predecessor. Both models include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and upgraded Ethernet options, with the M6 featuring a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators. The devices are designed to handle agentic AI workflows, productivity tasks, and creative projects efficiently.

The M5 Pro model targets professional users with up to an 18-core CPU and 20-core GPU, enabling complex tasks such as video rendering, game development, and 3D design. It supports up to 64GB of unified memory and 307GB/s memory bandwidth, facilitating large-scale AI models and ProRes RAW editing. Both models emphasize energy efficiency and quiet operation, making them suitable for always-on computing environments. The new Mac mini models are available for pre-order starting today, with availability beginning September 22.

Apple highlighted improvements in macOS 27 and Apple Intelligence, including enhanced Siri AI capabilities, Safari browsing organization, and advanced photo editing in the Photos app. The update introduces refinements to Liquid Glass for better readability and customization options, such as uniform toolbars and updated window shapes. These features aim to streamline workflows and improve user experience across applications.

The new Mac mini models incorporate environmental sustainability measures, including 50% recycled materials in construction, 100% recycled aluminum enclosures, and 100% recycled rare earth elements in magnets. Apple states that all manufacturing electricity is sourced from renewable energy, and the devices' packaging is fully recyclable. The company emphasizes progress toward its 2030 carbon neutrality goal across its entire footprint.
