Apple unveils iPhone Duo
Apple introduced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, featuring a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, with pre-orders starting October 16 and availability on October 23.
Apple unveiled iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable iPhone, combining a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display with a 5.4-inch outer display, both sharing the same aspect ratio for visual continuity. The outer display delivers 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro in a compact form, while the inner display is 50 percent larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max, offering an immersive canvas for content, gaming, and multitasking. A nano-texture finish on the inner display reduces glare and reflections, and a hidden FaceTime camera maintains an uninterrupted screen when not in use. Both displays feature ProMotion, Always On, and 3000 nits of peak brightness, with later support for Apple Pencil via USB-C.
The device is powered by the A20 Pro chip with a custom vapor chamber for thermal management and a dual-battery architecture, delivering pro-level performance and all-day battery life. Its advanced camera system includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera with zero shutter lag, 2x Telephoto, and 4K120 Dolby Vision recording, alongside new computational imaging and low-light capabilities. The folding design enables new camera modes, including Siri Camera mode for contextual assistance, and supports Cinematic effects after capture up to 60 fps. The camera system also introduces Audio Mix for higher-quality voice isolation and 4K time-lapse in Dolby Vision HDR.
iPhone Duo is built with grade 5 titanium, Ceramic Shield 2, and an IP68 rating for durability, featuring a precision hinge with over 100 components for a smooth, satisfying feel. The inner display includes a scratch-resistant coating and nano-textured cover layer with 40 percent higher stiffness, while custom adhesives allow layers to glide like book pages to relieve bend stress. Support ribs and ceramic fiber antenna inserts enhance structural rigidity, and Touch ID is integrated into the side button for consistent authentication whether open or closed.
iOS 27 is redesigned for iPhone Duo, with Lock Screen controls, Home Screen, and app navigation shifted to the side to maximize vertical space. The Dynamic Island is vertically oriented, and content dynamically reorients when the device is folded, turned, or flipped. Apple apps are optimized, and third-party apps like Netflix, Zoom, and Slack leverage the folding design for immersive experiences. StandBy mode is upgraded, and developers can adapt apps using new APIs in the latest SDKs, with Xcode support for iPhone Duo in Device Hub.
