Apple unveils new iMac with M6
Apple introduced the new iMac featuring the M6 chip, macOS 27, and Siri AI, offering enhanced performance, AI capabilities, and a refreshed design in seven colors.
Apple unveiled the new iMac with the M6 chip, positioning it as an upgrade over previous models with up to a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU featuring Neural Accelerators. The device delivers faster graphics and improved AI compute, making it suitable for productivity, creative tasks, and AI workloads. macOS 27 integrates Apple Intelligence, including a more capable Siri AI, enabling users to search, edit, and automate tasks across apps. The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display supports Visual Intelligence, allowing users to ask Siri about on-screen content with a keyboard shortcut.
The new iMac includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 2.5Gb Ethernet for faster connectivity, along with up to 2x faster SSD performance for quicker app launches and file handling. It supports up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports and two 6K external displays, expanding workspace flexibility. Users upgrading from Intel-based iMacs may experience performance up to 18x faster, according to Apple. The device also features refinements to Liquid Glass design, sharper app icons, and customizable display tinting in settings.
Apple highlighted environmental sustainability in the new iMac, using 100 percent recycled aluminum, rare earth elements, gold plating, and tin solder. Manufacturing relies on 40 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain, and the product meets Apple’s energy efficiency and safety standards. Packaging is 100 percent fiber-based and designed for recyclability, aligning with Apple’s 2030 carbon neutrality goal.
Siri AI in macOS 27 enables users to ask questions, find information across messages and emails, and take actions across apps. It supports writing and editing with Siri in Mail and Messages, reflecting the user’s typical style and tone. Apple Intelligence also enhances Safari with tab organization, website change notifications, and custom extension creation, while Shortcuts and Photos app offer intelligent automation and editing tools.
